LÎla Dance was co-founded by Carrie Whitaker and Abi Mortimer in 2006. The company has received 19 arts council grants to create 12 works on the company, including 4 full full-length works that have undergone international, national & rural tours. The company’s participation work is sector leading, and we have engaged over 1000 community dancers (ages 7-86)  in our professional works all over the UK.  Our most recent work on the climate crisis Fault Lines premiered in 2024 & was performed to sell out audiences at Brighton Fringe and Edinburgh Fringe Festival (listed by the Guardian as a must-see) & received a host of 5* & 4* reviews. The work also toured to Bora Bora, Denmark funded by International Touring and Environmental Responsibility Fund and has been nominated for the Green touring award for the 2025 One Dance UK Awards.  Our mulit-award nominated film Gaps in the Light (2022), a witty insight into UK Covid lockdown has been selected for many international film screenings alongside our earlier film a part (2018) that showcases 2 of the Uks most prolific wheelchair dancers Suzie Birchwood and Laura Jones. The company has collaborated with many international artists/ companies including Simona Bertozzi (Italy), Jon Maya (Spain), puppetry company Blind  Summit, Gary Clarke, writer for the BBC/ Sky Nick Walker and BAFTA nominated director Garry Crystal. At the companies inception LÎla Dance received 2 years of mentorship with Hofesh Shechter.
